Lomi Lomi is an ancient Hawaiian healing art that was traditionally passed down through generations of families in Hawaii only. Then in 1973 “Auntie Margaret Machado” decided to teach it to people that were not Hawaiians by heritage, but Hawaiians at heart. She called it “the loving touch”, and wanted the world to know of its existence, which had long been kept secret, as a means of keeping it’s true intention pure and untampered with.
Lomi Lomi is a rhythmic massage comprised of four basic strokes in a pattern of specific movements designed to increase circulation and lymphatic drainage. Lomi Lomi combines the use of prayer (pule), breath (ha), and energy (mana) with a variety of massage strokes to release “blocked” areas of tension in the body. Lomi Lomi improves physical and athletic performance through the rhythmic application of thumbs, knuckles, forearms and elbows. Lomi Lomi relaxes the nervous system, increases circulation and creates a tangible sense of well being. It is useful for maintaining health, and relieving pain from injury and debilitating illness. It is the “dance of massage,” and is as wonderful to give as to receive. It has been called “the dance of massage” and is as wonderful to give it as it is to receive. Combined with Hawaiian breath work, it creates a profound sense of well-being in the client and the practitioner.
